Use your Cricut to make these trendy DIY valentine earrings! These sweet hearts are perfect for Valentine’s Day and you can make them in less than 10 minutes.

DIY suede earrings

Unless it’s a taco shirt for myself or Valentine’s Day pajamas for my kids, I’m not one to go all out getting dressed for Valentine’s Day. Red is definitely not my color, and I have one pink shirt in my entire wardrobe. But I had such fun making faux leather earrings for Halloween, fall, and Christmas that I thought I’d whip up a cute pair of suede heart earrings for Valentine’s Day! Of course I had to use this trendy tear drop shape.

These DIY valentine earrings come together in less than 10 minutes, making them a super simple Valentine’s Day jewelry project. Make a pair for yourself, sell them at a craft fair, or whip out a whole bunch and gift them to your girlfriends at a Galentine’s Day party. I love easy projects!

faux suede earrings

I love working with Cricut’s faux suede to make jewelry—it doesn’t weigh anything and it cuts beautifully. I suggest using Cricut’s Strong Grip mat when cutting faux suede so that it won’t shift while the machine cuts. Cricut’s faux leather is also a beautiful and lightweight choice! Their genuine leather also works well, though it weighs a bit more.

DIY Valentine Earrings Instructions

Making these earrings is such an easy craft using your Cricut! You can use any Cricut machine to make this project: Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Xtra, Cricut Explore machines, Cricut Maker machines, and even Cricut Venture. You just need the fine point blade—no fancy tools or accessories!

Set up the file in Cricut Design Space

Open Cricut Design Space and upload the SVG file to Cricut Design Space or your cutting software if you are using a different type of cutting machine. I made these about 2.5″ tall, but you can change the earring size to make them smaller or larger if you prefer.

Design Space - Heart Earrings uploaded to Canvas

Click Make in the upper right. You’ll be asked how you want to load your project. Choose “On Mat.”

Design Space load screen

For your material cut setting, you will most likely need to click Browse All Materials and search for Faux Suede. I choose the Cricut brand as my material.

Cutting the Valentine Earrings

Place your leather with the colored-side up on the top of the mat. If you’re having trouble getting the faux leather to stick, user a brayer.

Hands putting leather on the Cricut mat.

Place your Cricut mat into your Cricut machine and press the blinking button to cut your project! I don’t find that the star wheels imprint faux leather that much, but if you’d like you can push the star wheels (the white wheels on the crossbar) over to the right so you aren’t imprinting your leather.

Faux leather on purple mat loaded into Cricut machine

Carefully peel back the leather from the mat, making sure to be extra cautious with the earrings themselves since they have delicate pieces. You could even save the little heart from the middle of the each earring and use them for other projects!

Hands peeling back the leather from the mat.

Assembling Your Valentine’s Day Earrings

Next you’ll need some sort of poking tool. A needle or a pin work well. I have a Cricut poking tool, so I used that. Using your poker, make a small hole at the top of the teardrop shape. It should be about 1/16″ from the top.

Showing process of make a hole for the fish hook

Use your needle-nose pliers to work open the ring at the bottom of the fishhook earring.

Showing process of putting the fish hook onto the earring

Slide the teardrop onto the earring using the hole you just poked, and clamp the ring back in place. If you are a jewellery maker and prefer to use a small jump ring between the earring and the earring hook, you can do that as well. Small jump rings can make the earring more “dangly” if you prefer.

Showing process of putting the fish hook onto the earring

They are ready to wear! I spent less than ten minutes designing, cutting, and assembling these earrings. And since I did the design work for you, you just have to cut, make, and wear!

Stop pulling your hair out and start creating confidently with your Cricut! Finally understand how to use your Cricut with my Learn Your Cricut eBooks!

Valentine's Day Coloring Page Round Up

Do you love to color? I do! As a kid I was a huge fan of coloring books and coloring pages. Now, as an adult, I find that coloring pages are a great way to relax and take my mind off things. I especially love coloring pages on winter days when it’s too cold to go outside and my kids are bouncing off the walls!

Today I’m rounding up a bunch of amazing Valentine’s Day themed coloring pages! There’s something here for kids of all ages (simple images), as well as adults (complex images). They are the perfect way to spend a cozy winter afternoon or to keep kids engaged in the classroom or at home.

We’ve got hearts, of course, but also chocolate, animals, flowers, a teddy bear, and more! Whether you’re celebrating romantic love, friendship, or just the idea that love always wins, Valentine’s Day is lots of fun for everyone.

One of my favorite things to do with my boys is print out a bunch of different Valentine’s Day coloring pages and then staple or sew them into a coloring book! Print these coloring sheet on regular printer paper or use a nicer cardstock. I’m partial to colored pencils, but markers or Crayola crayons would work too. Your red and pink crayons will really get a workout!

This heart-shaped rag wreath took me less than an hour to make! You can use any foam wreath form and scraps of fabric to make this easy project in under an hour.

scrappy fabric heart wreath

If you’re looking for easy projects that can be completed in under an hour, try a scrappy rag wreath! I made this heart-shaped wreath while my twins were napping, including cutting all the fabric into squares. As a mom who doesn’t have a lot of extra time on her hands, it was such a joy to go from start to finish while my boys took a nap!

I wanted to have a beautiful wreath to hang on our door that would work for Valentine’s Day but wasn’t pink or red. That way, it would work throughout the rest of winter and into spring, until I was ready to decorate for Easter. I had these two fabrics picked out for another project I never did, so I thought they’d make a cute wreath with a bit of a country vibe.

Once I finished my project, I love LOVE how it turned out. Especially for only an hour of work! Fabric rag wreaths are one of those projects that is great for beginner crafters who don’t have a ton of supplies on hand and want a quick, satisfying project in the end. Now that’s what I call happy crafting!

finished scrappy heart wreath

The History of Rag Wreaths

Rag wreaths are one of those projects that have been around for a very long time. It was a great way for people to use fabric scraps to create something new, along with rag rugs. You can even see rag projects in heritage museums throughout the United States and abroad.

Even today, this is a great scrap busting project! No need to head to the fabric store. If you’re like me, you have a huge fabric stash in your craft room. Making rag wreaths is a great way to get through some of those fabric scraps. Just cut your scraps down to size as mentioned in the directions and use them to make your rag wreath! I had these two checked patterns sitting in my stash for years, so this was a great reason to break them out and use them.

I also think this would look really pretty in an ombre of solid colors or patterned fabric. You could also use different color schemes for the different holidays, like red and green for Christmas decor, an array of pastels for Easter, or orange and black for a Halloween rag wreath. These foam wreath forms come in many shapes, too, so get creative! I’ve even seen mini foam wreath forms so you could whip up a mini rag wreath fast!

Rag Wreath Supplies

foam heart and black and white fabric squares

Get everything you need to make this project in my Amazon Shop!

You can also use a wire wreath form! Use long strips with a double knot around the wire form. No glue, but it does take longer to make and my hands are always much more tired after finishing one like that up! After making both, I definitely prefer this foam wreath form version—it’s just so much faster.

Rag Wreath Instructions

I don’t have any photos of this part, but I used my cutting mat, ruler, and rotary cutter to cut my fabric into long 3″ fabric strips, and then stacked those strips and cut them into 3″ fabric squares. (Even if you don’t sew, I think every crafter needs a mat, ruler, and cutter! I use them all the time to cut fabric, paper, vinyl, felt, etc.) Using a rotary cutter is so much easier than using regular scissors, but scissors work if that’s all you’ve got!

You could also cut strips of fabric that are more like 1.5″ wide by 3″ long but it will take you longer to make your rag wreath.

I had two stacks of 3″ fabric squares. One of my fabrics was a thin cotton and the other was flannel, so the two piles aren’t the same thickness — but they have roughly the same number of squares.

Start by placing a piece of fabric around the end of your dowel.

foam heart and black and white fabric square folded over in woman's finger

Dip the dowel and fabric into the glue…

black and white fabric square being dipped in glue

And stab into your foam. I found this oddly satisfying. It makes a nice little crunch.

black and white fabric square on wooden dowel being glues to heart foam shape

Then, repeat, repeat, repeat! It fills up a lot more quickly than you’d expect. My pieces of fabric were about 1/2″ apart. I tried to distribute both kinds of fabric evenly and I think it worked out great! I did try and work the fabric pieces at the bottom of the heart so that the point would be clearly visible.

progress of black and white fabric squares on wooden dowel being glues to heart foam shape

To hang it, I just pinned some white ribbon to the back of the wreath. You could also use tacks or hot glue.

ribbon pinned on back of foam heart

Final Heart Rag Wreath

I hung it on my old window to photograph it, but I’ve already moved it to our front door (which badly needs a makeover…add it to the list!). It looks so beautiful out there. Fabric wreaths really do soften the lines of a front porch! I’ve also hung them in windows and on interior doors, especially during the Christmas holiday season when our whole house is decorated.

finished scrappy fabric heart wreath

Update: This has held up so well. Three years later, and this beautiful fabric wreath is still my spring door decor. None of the fabric pieces have fallen out and because I used black and white, I don’t notice any fading from the sun.

I just love how it looks—so much texture and dimension! I store it flat in our Valentine’s Day decor box and I just fluff up the fabric each year when I pull it out to put it on the door.

This is the perfect project and I can’t wait for you to try making it!

It’s time to get crafty with your laser cutter for Valentine’s Day! Here are best Valentine’s Day laser projects, as well as a bunch of other files I’ve rounded up that will work with whatever laser cutter / engraver you have!

Six projects to make with a laser

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays to craft for. I think it’s because it’s so bright and happy in the middle of the long gray winter. We all need a little hope and love in these dark months!

Today I’m sharing some Valentine’s Day projects I’ve made with my xTool M1 laser and blade cutter. You can read my full Beginner’s Guide to the xTool M1 Hybrid Laser / Blade Cutter to learn more! I’ve also shared some projects from some of my blogging besties, as well as some great cut files from different online marketplaces.

If you also have an xTool M1, don’t forget to take advantage of the blade cutting as well! You could make projects like my DIY Valentine’s Day Pajamas, or a Not Today Cupid shirt if you’re feeling a bit snarky if you’re not feeling the love.

You could also make any of the below laser projects using a CO2 laser or a different diode laser. Just make sure you’re testing your materials before cutting and engraving. This will ensure your settings are correct for your machine and material!

Laser crafts are great for gift ideas, cards, kids’ valentines, decor, frames, and more! This is just a small sampling of the unending number of projects you can make with a laser cutter!

Finished LOVE sign on a teal background

I’ve been crafting a lot with my laser cutter lately, but I wanted to make a project that would work for just about any crafting machine you have! This LOVE artwork can be made using wood or acrylic cut on your laser cutter (xTool, Glowforge, etc.) or vinyl or iron on using your cutting machine (Cricut, Silhouette, etc.). Heck, you could even print it out and put it on a sublimation-ready sign! So many ways to use this LOVE SVG file.

For this project, I’m using the laser function of my xTool 10W M1 (see Beginner’s Guide to the xTool M1 Hybrid Laser / Blade Cutter for more information). I’m using a pre-made sign I’ve had in my craft room for ages, but I’ve linked to options in the supplies list below. You could even cut the sign itself out of wood using the laser cutter!

I’m using maple for the pieces of my sign, but you could cut this out of any type of wood, draft board, or even acrylic (see my heart earrings post for more tips on cutting acrylic with an xTool).

LOVE Artwork Supplies

Get everything you need to make this LOVE artwork in my Amazon Store!

A few notes on materials: You can use glue if you don’t want to use the 3M backing adhesive. The 3M adhesive makes things so easy, but craft glue is widely available and less expensive. For the pre-made sign, you can choose one from your favorite retailer or even cut your own!

LOVE Artwork Tutorial

These instructions are for the xTool M1 laser and xTool Creative Space, but again you can use whatever software and laser you have.

Start by preparing your piece of maple plywood (or whatever material you are using). I like using this 3M adhesive backing, which basically turns each cut piece into a sticker. That way you’re not messing with glue. Carefully line up the edge of the adhesive backing with the edge of your wood, and then carefully roll it out, smoothing it onto the wood as you go.

Trim it at the edge and use a brayer to really adhere the adhesive to the wood.

Then upload the LOVE file to Creative Space. You can move around the letters to save space, if you’d like. Change the settings to cut and adjust your settings. For maple, I use:

  • Power: 100
  • Speed: 4
  • Pass: 1
Creative Space with LOVE file uploaded.

Place your acrylic in the bed of your laser with the adhesive side down. For the xTool, I haven’t found it necessary to mask my material, but you can if you’d like. Cut your project using your laser cutter. Remember not to leave your laser unattended when it’s cutting.

The next step is to paint all of your pieces. I painted both the pre-made sign and all of the pieces using craft paint. (Side note: I love my glass craft board for painting projects like this. You can get paint all over the glass and clean it up with a bit of rubbing alcohol.).

Then simply peel back the lining on the adhesive on the back.

And place on your sign!

Once you have all of your pieces placed, your LOVE artwork is finished!
